If your life was a movie, would you watch it? I asked myself that question once and realized that filling my life up with things was not nearly as memorable as filling it up with places.

My name is Chip Latshaw, and I am a tourist. In early 2010 I closed my photography business; bought a bicycle and some camping equipment; traded in my big, heavy ‘pro’ camera gear for a small, lightweight SLR and three prime lenses, and set out to tour the United States. I take pictures of the things that move me as I travel through the landscape. Different people, places, weather conditions, and situations make every hour my ‘magic hour’ and with each new experience, I’m learning new ways of seeing, new ways of creating, and new ways of telling the stories I find. Rather than just grabbing snapshots of typical landmarks, I seek out places off the beaten path and create images that tell a story or express an idea.

For me, a life well lived is a life that values experience over acquisition, Adventure over stability, a big road over a big garage. That’s what this trip is all about – I’m circling the country looking for tall tales and short stories, big adventures and small moments.
